Finding good, detailed field guides to plants, animals and birds in Zambia is becoming much easier. There are now very comprehensive guides on the flora and fauna of southern Africa, which remain invaluable in Zambia. However, for total coverage there are now many smaller guides, published in Zambia, covering snakes, trees, wild flowers, birds and the like. There's even a comprehensive guide to the Zambian bird species that have been excluded from the southern Africa guides.

The traveller is advised to seek out some of the excellent books now being produced by the Wildlife and Environmental Conservation Society of Zambia, which are ideal for general game viewing and birdwatching. See Further Reading for recommendations and details.
