Taj Pamodzi Hotel
(194 rooms) corner of Church Rd and Addis Ababa Dr, PO Box 35450, Lusaka; tel: 01 254455; fax: 01 224005/250995; email: firstname.lastname@example.org; www.tajhotels.com
Opposite the Holiday Inn, the Pamodzi is a member of the Taj group of hotels, but despite this has a number of excellent individual touches. Its rooms, all refurbished during 2003, have AC, a bath/shower, satellite TV (with M-Net, BBC, CNN, etc), fridge/minibar, safe and direct-dial telephone, and the level of service is impressive. All rooms have a proper balcony, and the higher of the Pamodzi's nine floors have some fine views.
There's a comfortable lobby downstairs, and a good business centre. Adjacent to the hotel is its own fitness centre with two squash courts, and a gym with sauna and massage. This is one of the best gyms in town, and it is popular with many of Lusaka's more affluent residents. Outside, lawns surround a good swimming pool under jacaranda trees, overlooked by a coffee shop and bar, with a large terrace area, and a steak and grills restaurant. The restaurant serves a good and varied buffet breakfast. I've often stayed here, and always found the staff to be courteous and helpful.
