Getting there

The Mutinondo turn-off on the Great North Road (GPS: TUMUTI) is a few hundred metres south of Kalonje Railway Station on the TAZARA railway. It's about 12km southwest of the turning to Lavushi Manda, and 77km southwest of Mpika, or 364km northeast of Kapiri Mposhi. From the signboard to the lodge, along this driveway, it's a further 25km to camp. (This is accessible by 2WD year-round.)

With advance notice, it is possible to arrive at Kalonje by train, and arrange for the team at the lodge to collect you. However, at the time of writing there isn't an airstrip that's conveniently near here, and so the lodge is sadly 'off the menu' for anyone on a fly-in trip to this region.

However, construction is under way of a new airstrip at (GPS: MUTAIR) 1,441m above sea level. This is just over 1km from the lodge, and so I hope that air access to Mutinondo will be much easier by 2005.
