Kavumbu River

(3 tents, 1 chalet and camping) No contact details available
The turn-off to Kavumbu River Camp (GPS:TUKAVU) is about 27km north of the Mutemwa turn-off, or about 87km north of Sesheke. The camp itself stands beside the river, barely 2km from the turn-off. Having opened it in 1999, the camp's owners now stay in South Africa, and I'm told visit their camp relatively rarely.

However, the Zambian team here keep the camp in good condition. Its accommodation comprises three twin-bed igloo tents on raised wooden platforms, plus a twin-bed chalet that's on the ground, and a campsite. The spotless shared ablutions have hot water from wood-fuelled boiler, while a nearby water-tank doubles as a simple splash-pool. Supplies of firewood, laundry services, and other camp services are available at a nominal cost. Kavumbu is more of a brief stop-over than a place to stay for long, but mokoro trips can be arranged on request.
