Maun Rest Camp

(campsite) PO Box 250, Maun; tel: 6862623; tel/fax: 6863472 (with answerphone); email: simonjoyce@info.bw
This nice, quiet campsite is also the base for a small mobile safari operation run by the owners, Simon and Joyce. Find it by heading north from Maun on the road to Shorobe, Chobe and Moremi. They are about 7km past the Engen Filling Station.

Maun Rest Camp's campsite has good clean ablutions (four separate showers, loos and basins plus laundry tubs and sinks for dishes – all with copious hot water from a gas geyser) under some large shady trees. Ask the owners to show you the birdplum tree here, Berchemia discolour, which is indigenous but a little uncommon, with its thick foliage and small, edible fruits.

There's no bar or restaurant at the camp, though the Sports Bar and Restaurant is barely two minutes' walk away – so finding somewhere for a drink or dinner isn't a problem. If you don't have a tent then existing ones with bedding can be arranged for about P66 per person, or P30 for just the use of the tent's shell with no bedding.
