Kasama is centrally located, about 860km from Lusaka. Visitors to northern Zambia will invariably end up spending some time here, even if only to refuel and buy a few soft drinks. It is a busy little town, with lots going on. As it acts as a supply centre for much of the north of the country, there are some well-stocked stores, and a relatively large amount of traffic coming into, and leaving, town.

If you are driving between Lake Tanganyika and Lusaka, then Kasama's small guesthouses, and perhaps one of the small lodges near Mkushi, provide essential respites from long hours of pothole dodging on the main road.
