Colobus monkey

Angola black-and-white colobus monkey
Colobus angolensis Length (excluding tail) 65cm. Weight 12kg.
This beautiful jet black monkey has bold white facial markings, a long white tail and white sides and shoulders. Almost exclusively arboreal, it is capable of jumping up to 30m, a spectacular sight with its white tail streaming behind. Several races have been described, and most authorities recognise this Angolan variety as a distinct species. In Zambia they are very rare, but have been reported from the forests north of Mwinilunga.
