Chrismar Hotel

(47 rooms) Los Angeles Bd, PO Box 36043, Lusaka; tel: 01 253036/253605; fax: 01 252569; email: chrismar@zamnet.zm; www.chrismar.co.zm
In extensive grounds next to the Lusaka Club, with secure parking, the Chrismar was opened in 1999. Rather small double rooms are all carpeted, with blue walls and matching bedcovers, tea/coffee-making facilities and an en-suite bath/shower. Some overlook the courtyard, others the swimming pool. 12 new suites being added in 2003 will have bath and shower, satellite TV, phone and AC. It's simple, light and modern, and certainly a cut above most of Lusaka's cheaper hotels, though it could be noisy at weekends.

Outside a rather over-elaborate stone bridge leads across a fishpool with fountain. Umbrella-shaded tables surround the large swimming pool with its own bar, next to the popular Cattleman's Grill a favourite for meat eaters and a venue for live bands on Friday nights. The warm yellows of the brasserie bring a real sense of location, and there's also a coffee shop. Fitness fanatics can use the gym, and in the front is a children's play area. To the left of the entrance is a good curio shop, with an internet café/business centre upstairs that's open Mon–Fri 08.00–20.00, and 16.00–20.00 weekends.
