Where to stay

Lukulu has a government guesthouse, reached by turning southwest off the main road, just west of the post office and Zamtel office, and then taking the first right turn. There's also a private hotel, near the old market on the right of the road as you head north to Watopa. A room at either will cost around US$4–8/Kw20,000–40,000; both are very simple and basic.

There are no campsites, but in the dry season there are many lovely spots along the river (especially just across from Lukulu on the far bank) where a well equipped traveller can camp in peace. Ask whoever owns the nearest homestead for permission.
