Nightlife

There are several nightclubs in Kitwe – though do take local advice as the current 'in' places change regularly. The three most popular are probably Effie's, Cinderella's and Club Zero. All have pool tables, dance floors and disco music. Effie's plays a wide mix of different music, the others tend to stick more to rhumba and rhythm and blues.

All are frequented almost exclusively by black Zambians, and they open until very late. Overseas visitors have no problems here and the owners of the clubs are generally quite good at sorting trouble out if/when it develops. Normally these clubs have a very lively and friendly atmosphere. You should, of course, take the standard precautions that apply in any such busy places, to avoid the attention of thieves and pickpockets – by dressing down and not carrying valuables.

Entrance to Effie's is free, whilst the others charge about Kw5,000 per person. Effie's is on Blantyre Road in the 'second class trading area'. Cinderella's is on Obote Ave, in the town centre (just down from the Edinburgh Hotel). Club Zero is in Kwacha East township (turn right at traffic lights for Buchi on Independence Avenue, and this is about 3km down the road).
