About 260km after turning on to the Chinese Road from the Great North Road, you'll reach a T-junction. Turn right and after about 9km you'll reach Samfya, a small town beside the remarkable white, sandy beaches of Lake Bangweulu. However, there's really nowhere to stay here and do remember that the lake is full of crocodiles – however tempting the beach looks.

Note that Lake Bangweulu has regular postboats on it, similar to the postbuses, which collect and deliver mail to the island communities in the lake. Like the buses, these will happily take paying passengers. So if you have your camping kit and food, and feel like a few days' adventure, perhaps this is the perfect place for you to start.
