Where to stay in Luambe

Until very recently there's been nowhere to stay here, but in 2002 a new lodge opened:

Luangwa Wilderness
This improbably remote rest-stop is just 3km from the main road (GPS: LUAMBE), and well worth staying at if you're driving between the South and North Parks. The lodge has been built rather beautifully, under the cool and dense shading of thick riverine vegetation. Here you'll find five very comfortable tents, each built on a platform with good firm twin beds and en-suite bathroom (with flush toilet and hot and cold shower), and each looking over the river. The lodge also has a shaded dining area with a bar, and comfy chairs for relaxing. The camp is powered entirely by solar power, and the tents have battery-powered lights for night-time. Adjacent is a similarly well-kept campsite; with enough advanced notice, campers can arrange to eat at the lodge and join game drives.

Whilst few overseas visitors will fly over the camps in the South Park to get here, Luangwa Wilderness remains a surprisingly good little lodge which will be an essential stop on the very long road from Mfuwe to North Luangwa.
