Chita Lodge

(7 Rooms) 25 Chakeluka Rd, Po Box 31441, Lusaka; Tel 01 290993/290814; Fax: 01 293779; Email: Chitalodge@Zamnet.Zm; Www.Chita.Co.Zm
Just behind Manda Hill shopping complex and clearly signposted from the Great East Rd, Chita Lodge was opened in 2001 by James Chungu. Indoors, there's no doubting the theme: Zambian wildlife. In one room, zebras leap out from the fabrics; in another, it's cheetahs. Double rooms have en-suite shower or bath, but the luxury is reserved for twin doubles, which come with phone, AC/heating, fridge, hot drinks facilities, DStv, DVD player (there's a DVD library for guests to use) and a selection of books; all have wooden parquet flooring.

Friendly, modern and well looked after, the lodge boasts secure parking, a crystal-clear swimming pool with soft grassy surround and a poolside bar. There's a small dining area and bar with tables on a shaded terrace by the pool, all surrounded by soft green lawns and immature trees. The restaurant is open all day for both light lunches and à la carte dinner – when we visited, the menu included snails, smoked salmon, samosas, grills and pasta; there's also a children's menu.
