Kaingo Guest House

(6 rooms) 35D Leopards Lane (off Leopards Hill Rd), Kabulonga, PO Box 31402; tel: 01 263231; email: kaingo@zamtel.zm
To reach Kaingo, take Leopards Hill Rd out of town from the roundabout on Los Angeles Bd. After St Mary's, but before Lake Road Primary School, take a right turn on to Leopards Hill Lane, which bisects it. A little way down here there's an alley on the right, and Kaingo is the first gate on the right; there's no sign.

This small, well-kept guesthouse, deep in the suburbs, has been open since around 1994. It is run by Winnie Kwesha, who clearly aims mainly for business visitors and NGO personnel sent to Zambia for short postings. The rooms are all different, but all are en suite and 'rustic' in their use of potted plants, stone, wooden floors, nice fabrics and rugs. All double rooms have double beds rather than twin. The communal areas are relaxed; there's a comfy TV lounge/bar and meals can be provided if requested. Outside is a good swimming pool, surrounded by fountains.
