Where to stay

Though the range of camps listed here appears to be long, most non-Zambian visitors are probably best to choose between a combination of Lufupa and Shumba (and the new Kafwala Rapids Camp), or alternatively a combination of Lunga's River Lodge and its Busanga Bushcamp. (That said, Hippo Camp might soon become a plausible option for those feeling more offbeat!) Both of these operators are true specialists in northern Kafue; they have been here for years and are closely involved with the park and its conservation. Both are very reliable, and both will deliver a very consistent experience – and yet they are totally different. Read on…

Camping

Camping in the park is easily arranged at Lufupa, and Kafwala is only a little more expensive than a campsite. It may be possible to camp up at Treetops; ask the scouts for the latest information on this, and possibly for permission. Note – there are no campsites on the Busanga Plains, and you are not allowed to just camp anywhere. This rule is both wise, and effectively enforced.
