Shumba Bushcamp

(2 twin chalets and 2 twin tents) Book as part of a trip with Busanga Trails (see Lufupa Lodge)
Shumba is the permanent bush-camp of Busanga Trails on the Busanga Plains. It is set on a picturesque 'island' of large fig trees, in the middle of the plains about 75km (21/2 hours' drive) north of Lufupa, and some 15–20 minutes' drive south of the base of the permanent swamps.

Accommodation is in two twin tents on platforms, and two simple thatched, reed-walled chalets, each of which has twin beds, a shelf and a mirror. Shared showers and flush toilets are nearby. There is a two-storey lookout lounge, with excellent views across the floodplain and a waterhole nearby. Below this is a dining area where buffet meals are served.
Activities here revolve around driving: little game is seen if you walk around an area this open. As with Lufupa, the highlights are the night drives, and Shumba's guides are also expert at locating the Busanga Plain's resident prides of lions.

Open July 15 to end October
