Redcliff Zambezi

(6 chalets) PO Box PO Box 12609, Clubview 0014, South Africa; tel: +27 12 653 2664; fax: +27 12 654 4015; email: info@redcliff-lodge.com; www.redcliff-lodge.com
Tucked away in a game management area between the dramatic scenery of the Mpata Gorge and the village of Luangwa (often referred to as 'Luangwa boma') on the Mozambique border, is the South-African-owned Redcliff Zambezi. Access is either from Luangwa Boma airstrip or by boat from the village; the trip takes about half an hour. Luangwa can be reached fairly easily by road from the Great East Road (turn south on the west side of the bridge over the Luangwa), or by charter flight from Lusaka or Livingstone.

Accommodation is in en-suite tented chalets, with two or four beds, the latter layout designed for families. An 'entertainment area' encompasses the lounge, dining room and bar, its veranda overlooking the river. The lodge is said to be particularly popular for fishing, mostly on a catch-and-release basis. Visitors may also take day trips through the gorge by boat into the national park, or to see the vestiges of the slave-trade industry in the vicinity of Luangwa village.
