Elephant-riding

For an elephant encounter, SafPar's Zambezi Elephant Trails offer the only elephant-back safaris in Zambia, and are based at Thorntree River Lodge on the Zambezi River. Here you and your 'Nduna' will ride majestic African elephants – through the bush and along the river – in the upper reaches of the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park where you may encounter wild elephants, buffalo, bushbuck or small game.

The Elephant Company in Victoria Falls offer morning, lunchtime or afternoon elephant-back safaris. They are only 15 minutes' drive from Victoria Falls, at the Nakavango Estate adjacent to Zambezi National Park. Here you and your 'Nduna' (the elephant pilot) will have an opportunity to ride African elephants through the bush accompanied by the professional guide on foot. There is game in the area – including kudu, buffalo, bushbuck and impala – which are sometimes seen. All the elephants were originally orphaned and raised on family farms, and so are comfortable being around people, and they are shown great respect and sensitivity. You will have a chance to feed them and interact with them with them close up – an unforgettable and moving experience. You will also hear about elephant issues and conservation efforts in Africa. Breakfast, Brunch or sundowners and all transfers from Livingstone are included. Booking is essential.

Rates: SafPar charge US$100 half day, plus $10 park fees inclusive of transfers and either breakfast, brunch or sundowners and snacks.
