Thrills and Spills

The Falls area is indisputably THE adventure capital of southern Africa. There is an amazing and seemingly endless variety of ways to get your shot of adrenaline: white-water rafting, canoeing, bungee-jumping, kayaking, abseiling, gorge swinging, river boarding, or simply a flight over the Falls.

None comes cheaply. Most are in the US$50–150 range per activity which add up quickly. If you wish to do multiple activities, check out the many combination packages on offer. These can be slightly cheaper than booking individually with apt names like the “Double Deal” (rafting and jet boat for US$145), 'Triple Thriller' (combining rafting, jet boat and helicopter for US$260) and the 'Awesome Foursome' (consisting of rafting, riverboarding, jet boat and helicopter for US$290). There are also choices of operator for most of these – so if you book locally, shop around to find something that suits you before you decide. Prices won't vary much – but you will find the true range of what's available. Whatever you plan, expect to sign an indemnity form before your activity starts.

On the Zambian side, construction has been under way on two gorge lifts, a funicular-style railway at rapid 23 and a single cable car at rapid 25, to bring clients out of the gorge after rafting trips, wiyh the cost to be included in the activity price. The race is on to see which of these is operational first.
