Luamfwa

Well away from any other camp, in the south of the park, Luamfwa Camp overlooks the Luangwa River from a superb site – with one of the biggest swimming pools in the Luangwa. It's best approached with a 4WD using the back-roads from Petauke but note that this is an adventurous route for experienced drivers only which is only possible in the dry season. Relatively few clients fly here, but it's possible to fly into Mfuwe, and arrange a transfer to the lodge. Luamfwa is one of the oldest, and is still the most southerly, of all the Luangwa's lodges but, despite many years of building, only recently has it started to operate again. Luamfwa welcomes children and they have four two-bedroom chalets; each has a double and a twin bedroom, which share a bathroom with a flush toilet and a shower. The lodge's managers have plans to start a number of bush-camps in 2005.
