New Fairmount Hotel

(73 twin rooms, family rooms, 3 suites) PO Box 60096; tel: 03 320723–8, 321136, 320075; fax: 03 321490; email: nfhc@zamnet.zm
In the centre of town, on Mosi-oa-Tunya Rd between Mose and Mwela streets, this is a large, old hotel of Moorish design in sparkling white plaster that was once the town's focal point. The hotel has been refurbished and its newly upgraded rooms are clean with en-suite facilities, AC, mini fridge, satellite TV and even a DVD/video player. These are set around white-painted concrete courtyards at the back, where there's a good swimming pool and plenty of shady sitting places. The hotel has a restaurant serving Zambian and international dishes, plus a casino and disco, both popular local nightspots at weekends. It also has one of Livingstone's only squash courts. A desk for Bwaato Adventures occupies a corner of the cavernous entrance lobby, while a small arcade with beauty salon and shops hides in a courtyard behind. In front is ample covered parking under the watchful eye of 24-hour security. A convenient location combined with many amenities makes the hotel good value.
