Kingfisher Houseboat

(16 beds) PO Box 60760; tel: 03 322508, 323097, +267 71 516960; fax: 03 324081; email: annabelfaulks@yahoo.co.uk, taonga@zamnet.zm
New to the area is a comfortable houseboat, sleeping up to 16, which cruises the Upper Zambezi waters, departing from the fishing village of Mambova some 14 km beyond Kazungula (a good hour from Livingstone). From town, head upriver on Nakatindi Rd, turn left turn at the signpost indicating the Kazungula border/ferry then right at sign for Mambova; follow the dirt track until you reach the river. The Kingfisher is ideal for groups or families seeking privacy and wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of town, but is too far for participation in Falls-based activities to be practical. Its upper deck features a dining area and bar, Jacuzzi and plunge pool with ample seating and comfortable sun-beds to soak up the rays as you meander along the river. Downstairs are an open-plan kitchen, three toilets and showers and eight twin-bedded berths. These are basic and small, with low-lying beds, in contrast to the more luxurious feel of the upper deck. Activities centre on the river and relaxation – the area is renowned for its scenic beauty, rich birdlife and good tiger fishing (tackle provided). Guided island walks and visits to nearby fishing villages are included in the price. The houseboat is accompanied by two tender boats, for hire at reasonable rates for daily excursions – ideal for keen fishermen. There's an on-board chef and menus can be adapted to suit your tastes.
